What is 'A State of Being'?

A State of Being replaces alignment systems with Worldview, suggesting points-of-view rather than offering moral compasses.   Background supports this by uniting parties, developing interesting rumors about characters, and aiding in the development of dynamic character concepts.  Referees/GMs/DMs may have to tweak aspects of this product to fit the system they use.

The PDF is bookmarked and hyperlinked for ease of use.

Worldview

Worldview describes a character’s point-of-view and attitudes, which developed from their physical and social environments.

This product offers nine (9) example Worldviews, with a guide on how to quickly create your own.

Background

Background is the most extensive section of this product.  It consists of three parts: 1.) Bonds with your party; 2.) a Rumor about your PC; and 3.) their Concept.  Concept is a mini-game-like effort designed to draw you into your character a bit more.

This is actually one of the most interesting character creation helps that we at Angel's Citadel have run across.  The Smallwood's unique take on worldview, and the way they genericize backgrounds and concepts make for an excellent addition to basically any system.  The only supplement I can think of that I would use the same way are the old Central Casting supplements from Paul Jaquays.  Both Joann and I would love to see more stuff like this.  Great work!

No problem.  We actually cover it as one of our favorite tools for Character Creation here:

I really like the point y'all made about free-flowing Inspiration.  It's something I've used in house, but was worried about the effect to other players' games.  In the end, I wanted it to be left up to the GM.
